What to experience in Århus

This blog post will be our recommendation of what to experience in Århus. It will only be a few tips on what you can see, since there are soo many things to experience in this amazing city, and we could go on all night long if we had the time. You’ll just have to go and see for yourself 😉

Århus is actually awarded Europeans cultural capital in 2017,  and we understand why because there are so many things to do in Århus! Århus is such a nice city to visit if you are traveling in Denmark. Århus is Denmarks second to the largest city and we personally think it is a bit smaller and centered than Copenhagen. People seem a little less busy and a bit more chilled than in Copenhagen, and this adds to a really happy and chilled atmosphere in Århus.

Stay at First Atlantic Hotel

While we were in Århus we stayed at First Atlantic Hotel. We recommend this hotel since it is located in the center of Århus city and is in walking distance to all of our following recommendations. This hotel is also eco-friendly since it is certified with the Green Key award. Our room was super spacious and the interior design was very nice. Furthermore, we would like to highlight the hotel’s breakfast which was served on the 10th floor with a view overlooking Århus. The buffet was super delicious and had many vegan, glutenfree and lactose-free alternatives.

Århus Street Food

Just a 5 min walk from First Atlantic Hotel you will find Århus Street Food, which in our opinion is Denmarks best street food! There are so many yummy food vendors, bars and small dessert shops and it is possible to sit inside and outside. The interior is super cozy and there are many lounge areas where you can sit down and enjoy your food and drinks. This is also a great and cheap spot to start your night out in Århus since it is in the center of Århus and just a short walk for a number of bars.

Botanical Garden

There are honestly so many cultural experiences to have in Århus and we really enjoy all the city’s great museums and art galleries and can wholeheartedly recommend them. But one thing you can experience without charge is Århus’ botanical garden. The garden is located a short walk from the city center so it is very easy to get to. There are outside gardens surrounding the main buildings and the entrance is free. It is a fun and beautiful experience to both walk around outside and inside to see the different plants, flowers, and insects in different environments. There is also a small gift shop and coffee shop that would be a perfect place to grab a coffee.

Café Glad

If you are seeking a really nice lunch spot we would definitely recommend you to check out Café Glad! Once again, this cafe is in walking distance from the city center. This cafe has some really nice modern interior design and a very down to earth vibe. The menu is just perfect for breakfast and lunch and most of the food is organic. And there is something for everyone: vegan, glutenfree, meat-eater. Whoever you are and whatever you prefer, if it is a vegan smoothie ball or a traditional burger, you got it! The staff is also super sweet and welcoming, so we really enjoyed our lunch at Café Glad.

We hope you liked our very short recommendation of what to do in Århus. We know this blog post doesn’t give the city any justice, but it is just to give you a taste of what Århus has to offer 😉
